Designing an Outdoor Venue: Area Calculation
Activity Description
This hands-on activity immerses students in the role of an event planner, challenging them to create an outdoor venue for an exciting summer festival. The outdoor venue has four different activity areas with different shapes - circular, trapezoidal, and rectangular, and the whole venue is circular shape. To make the venue look awesome, they want to put a carpet in each area where people will have fun. They also want to put tiles on the whole ground. To buy the necessary carpet and tiles, students will calculate the total area of activity plots and the total area of the whole venue.
By visualizing and calculating the dimensions of individual activity areas within the venue, they'll learn how to make math an integral part of event design, making the subject more relatable and engaging in a real-world context.
Learning Objective
The students will learn how to visualize and calculate the area of different shapes and spaces, such as rectangles, trapezoids, circles, etc. by using the provided dimensions. The activity connects math to real-life scenarios by demonstrating how math is used in event planning and design.
