Statistics: Finding Averages
Activity Description
A family field day event of the year is about to come, to be prepare for the event, the school management has asked the students to analyze the attendance data of the events that happened in the previous years. The data provided is the attendance in each hour of the three hour event in different schools in different years along with the weather of the hour.
In this activity, students will analyze the attendance data in the tabular and graphical format and find the average attendance for
1. Different weather conditions
2. Every school
3. Every hour
4. Every year
and then compare the averages to find the maximum and minimum values.
Learning Objective
The activity helps students to analyze a given data and helps grasp information from graphs and charts. The activity also improves the analytical skills, helps them to sharpen their math knowledge to compute averages and to compare values.
